Community R-VI Board
of Education Update
The Community R-VI Board of Education met Regular Session on Tuesday, April 15, 2008. President Warren Hale called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. The Board approved the agenda.
After reviewing the certified results from each of the four counties, The Board certified the April 2008 Election Results which include the passage of the Bond Issue and the election of Andrew Fairchild, Glenn Jensen, Jr., and Chris Bohr.
Board Secretary Sherri Deimeke administered the oath to Andrew Fairchild and Glenn Jensen. Mr. Fairchild and Mr. Jensen signed their Oath of Office. Chris Bohr was unable to attend the meeting due to a death in his family.
The Board elected officers for the coming year: President—Kevin Deimeke, Vice-President—Andrew Fairchild, Treasurer—Tresa Hodges.
The Board approved the following consent items: the minutes of the Regular Session held March 18, 2008, the transfer from the general fund to the teacher's fund to cover monthly expenditures, the Nurse’s Report for April, and the addition of Lucy Davidson and Erin Mack to the district substitute teacher list.
The Board reviewed and approved the following District Evaluations:
1. Extra Curricular Activities
2. Mission/Philosophy/Goals
3. Library Media Center
The Board approved payment of April 2008 bills.
Vision Intervention Representative Michael Flynn provided information on the Vision Intervention Program and the company’s results from implementing the program in school districts.
Board President Kevin Deimeke read a thank-you note from Christia Provancha and family.
District Architect Martin Meyer spoke to the Board regarding the proposed renovations, which will be made as a result of the passage of the Bond Issue. The first step will be the survey of the site by the Architechnics staff to review existing conditions and confirm the established strategies. The major portion of the construction or renovations will be done in the spring and summer of 2009.
Superintendent Arlen Provancha reviewed the procedures L.J. Hart will follow for offering Community R-VI District Bonds for sale.
High School Principal Jake Moss provided the potential list of 2008 graduates. The Board approved the 2008 graduates pending the successful completion of the semester.
Superintendent Arlen Provancha provided the monthly transportation report and reported the district has been approved for the Summer School Food Service Program.
Elementary Principal Natalie Gibson provided elementary enrollment and attendance. Mrs. Gibson distributed summer school pamphlets. The theme for 2008 Summer School is “Proud to be U.S.” She reported some of the elementary classes are still M.A.P. testing.
Secondary Principal Jake Moss presented middle school/high school attendance and enrollment. He reported middle school/high school is still M.A.P. testing and reported the district is in the process of searching for a math/science teacher. A+ Grant is in process and application will need to be submitted in March 2009. Mr. Moss reported the Drama Club Dinner Theater will be Friday, April 18,
After discussion in Executive Session the Board voted to employ Shanta Wheeler
as an elementary teacher for the 2008-2009 school year and offered the following
extra duty positions:
