Board of Education Meeting Update
August 18, 2009

The Community R-VI Board of Education met in Regular Session on Tuesday, August 18, 2009.  The Board approved the July 21, 2009 Regular Session meeting minutes and a transfer from the general fund to the teacher's fund to cover monthly expenditures.  The Board set tuition for the 2009-2010 school year at $6,117 per student.

The Board approved the following individuals as substitute teachers for the 2009-2010 school year:  Mackenzie Becker, Nichole Blaue, Jamie Boyd, Mary Bracht, Penelope Cearley, Joyce Gilmore, Ronald Hopkins, Selena Jones, Megan Long, Mila Lowry, Kimberley McClenning, Aubrey Nolan, Joyce Nolan, Jerry Payne, Paula Ragsdale, Timothy Scott, Diana Sommer, Glenn Swarthout, Lisa Williams, and Jean Zumbehl.  The Board also voted to employ Teresa Wortmann as a Registered Nurse.

The Board voted to authorize Arlen Provancha, Superintendent, to examine and sign a dual credit agreement between Central Methodist College and the District.  The Board approved Robert Fischer to teach a dual credit call through Moberly Area Community College.

The Board approved the adoption of the Code of Ethics Policy.  The Board approved payment of the August 2009 bills.

Tresa Hodges, Board President, read a thank you note from Jim Brink for the plant sent at the time of his father’s death.

Martin Meyer, District Architect, gave an update on the ongoing construction project and anticipated completion date.

Arlen Provancha, District Superintendent, discussed the proposed 2009-2010 Tax Rate.

Superintendent Provancha reported on the fire that occurred on August 16, 2009.  He stated smoke damage and soot was contained primarily to the basement.  Due to the fire, the start of school has been delayed until August 26, 2009.

Natalie Gibson, Elementary Principal, reported that Laddonia Youth Ball wants to acquire an air conditioning unit for their concession stand.  She reported the counselors are working to enroll students and test them for grade placement.  Mrs. Gibson reported elementary students met their Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).

Steven Wolf, Secondary Principal, reported home softball games would be played on August 24 (Cairo) and August 25 (Silex).  Dr. Wolf reported a Future Farmers of America (FFA) meeting was held the week of August 10.  He reported students registered for school the week of August 3.  Dr. Wolf reported the high school students did not meet their AYP.  He stated that based on a federal mandate, the vending machines would contain nutritious snacks.

While in Executive Session, the Board voted to approve the July 21, 2009 Executive Session meeting minutes.

The next regular Board of Education Meeting will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the district library.
