Community R-VI School District Board of Education February Update

Prior to the Regular Board of Education Meeting a Public Meeting was held at 7 p.m. to discuss the 2009-2010 School Year Calendar.  President Kevin Deimeke called the Regular Board of Education Meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.  The Board approved the agenda and the following consent items:  the minutes of the Regular Board of Education Meeting held on January 20, 2009, the transfer from the general fund to the teacher's fund to cover monthly expenditures, the Nurse’s Report for February, and the addition of Kasi Saul, Tim Scott, and Diana Sommer to the district substitute teacher list.

The Board reviewed the preliminary list of class offerings for 2009 Summer School.  Only those classes that have sufficient students register will actually be offered.

The Board reviewed and approved the following District Evaluations: Transportation, Gifted Program, At-Risk, and Vocational Programs.

The Board approved payment of February 2009 bills.  Board President Kevin Deimeke read a thank-you note from Pat and Teresa Finder.

The Board toured the vocational agriculture classroom and shop to see the renovations, which have been completed thus far and heard a presentation from senior agriculture students.

Superintendent Arlen Provancha briefly reviewed the renovation schedule.  The administration will meet with District Architect Martin Meyer and General Contractor Nick Cannon on March 11.

 

The Board voted to transfer $162,326 or 7% X SAT X WADA, which ever is greater, from the General Fund to the Capital Projects fund to pay for renovation project costs which is scheduled to be completed August 2009. 

The Board voted to approve the 2009-2010 calendar, which has a starting date that is more than ten days prior to the first Monday in September.
 
Superintendent Arlen Provancha presented the monthly Transportation Report and spoke briefly about the 2009-2010 Budget.

Elementary Principal Natalie Gibson provided elementary attendance and enrollment.  The elementary is continuing to make progress on their Smart Goals.  She reported the district is probably ready to present some Professional Learning Community Strategies.  The elementary had 96% parent participation at the student lead Parent Teacher Conferences held on February 11 and 12.  Delores Woodhurst from Ralls County School District will present M.A.P. testing information at the Professional Development early out next Friday. The elementary is having great success with the Word Wall.

  1. Middle School/High School Principal Dr. Steve Wolf provided middle school and high school attendance.  Excessive tardy letters and excessive absence letters have been mailed to parents.  During Parent Teacher Conferences last week, District Science Teacher Melanie Utterback hosted a Science Night, which was well received.  Dr. Wolf presented information on district safety updates.  N.A.E.P. test was administered the end of January without incident. He provided information updates on the End of Course Exams.

 

While in Executive Session the Board reviewed the Principal Evaluations and voted to offer an additional year of employment for the 2009-2010 school year to Secondary Principal Steven Wolf and to Elementary Principal Natalie Gibson.

The next Regular Board of Education Meeting will be held on March 17, 2009 at 7 p.m. in the school library.
