Community R-VI School District March 2008 Board Update
The Community R-VI Board of Education met in Special Session on March
13, 2008 to conduct secondary principal interviews. After discussion
the Board voted to
offer the secondary principal position for the 2008-2009 school year to Steven
Wolf.
The Community R-VI Board of Education held a Calendar Hearing before the Regular Board of Education meeting on Tuesday March 18, 2008. There were no comments or discussion about the proposed 2008-2009 Calendar. The Regular Board of Education Meeting followed and was called to order at 7:05 p.m. The Board approved the amended agenda and the following consent items: the transfer from the general fund to the teacher's fund to cover monthly expenditures and the Nurse’s Report for March.
The Board reviewed and approved the evaluations for: Health Services and Technology.
The Board approved the 2008-2009 school year calendar and accepted the resignation
of Cheer Sponsor Nicole Deimeke.
Technology Director Emma Jaccarino updated the Board with a District Technology
report. The Board viewed some of the new technology in the middle school
math room, which was acquired through the METS Grant. She reported there
are 40 users left on the Community Information Network. She requested permission
to submit a Ed French Foundation Grant for the purchase of graphing calculators.
The calculators will be a purchased with a matching grant. Martinsburg Bank
and Trust will provide the funds for the grant match. The Board voted to
give Emma Jaccarino permission to submit the Ed French Foundation Grant for
graphing calculators.
Salary and Welfare Committee made a presentation to the Board regarding their requests for the coming school year. The salary and welfare committee representative Bonnie Wilson provided the following salary and welfare requests: addition of $500 to the base salary, increase the mileage allowance paid to staff, and increase the district contribution for staff health insurance.
Board President Warren Hale read a thank-you note from the Martinsburg Knights of Columbus for the use of the gym for the K of C Free Throw Contest.
The Board made a motion to certify the April 8, 2008 Election results at the regular Board of Education Meeting on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. The election results will be certified, all newly elected members will be sworn in as Board members and election of Board officers will take place.
The Board passed a resolution, which gives the MOSIP Board of Directors the
Community R-VI proxy to vote at the spring meeting.
Superintendent Arlen D. Provancha provided the Monthly Transportation Report and reported the Board will look at bus routes at the April meeting. Mr. Provancha requested permission to submit a grant, which will provide reimbursement for summer school lunch program. The program (grant) provides breakfast and lunch for everyone (5-18 years of age) attending summer school. The Board voted to submit the summer school meal program grant. Superintendent Provancha provided 2008-2009 health insurance information. The district will continue coverage with BC-BS Anthem. Employee premium cost increases will range from 8% from 14%. The district currently pays $265 per month. The Board voted to increase the district paid portion of health insurance by $45 per month.
Elementary Principal Natalie Gibson provided elementary attendance and enrollment. Secondary Principal Jake Moss provided middle school/high school attendance and enrollment. Mr. Moss reported the 8th grade would take a trip to Six Flags at the end of the school year. He also reported on the progress of the A+ Program application and Business Teacher Michael Boedeker has submitted the Vocational Enhancement Grant.
While in Executive Session, the principals provided teacher evaluations. The Board voted to offer employment for the 2008-2009 school year to the following probationary teachers: James Benson, Bart Bockenstedt, Michael Boedeker, Mary Ann Burkhalter, Bob Curtis, Bob Fischer, Rebecca McCurdy, Melanie Utterback, Marci Wilburn, Rose Wilburn, Chris Willingham, Eva Eikel, Karen Stone, Nicki Deimeke, Betty Fennewald and Melody Crowe. The following tenured teachers are employed for the 2008-2009 school year Denise Becker, Kathy Borgmeyer, Missy Carter, Teresa Finder, Pam Hollowood, Barb Kibble, Gayle Madsen, Glenda Norton, Jean Robnett, Jane Summers, Bonnie Wilson, Vicki Briggs, Jim Brink, Bethany Curtis, Don Hanson, Emma Jaccarino, Karen Scott, and Sonja Sommer.
The Board voted to employ an additional math/science teacher for the 2008-2009 school year.
The next Regular Board of Education Meeting will be held April 15, 2008 at 7 p.m. in the school library.
