The Community R-VI Board of Education met in Regular Session on Tuesday, May 19, 2009.  The Board approve the agenda and the following consent items: the transfer from the general fund to the teacher's fund to cover monthly expenditures, Nurse’s Report for May, Summer School Application, 2008-2009 Bus Routes and offering Student Accident Insurance through the Naught Naught Agency.

The Board reviewed and approved the following District Evaluations:
1. Parents As Teachers
2. Instructional Effectiveness

The Board accepted the resignations of Elementary Secretary Lynn Pound, Board of Education/Superintendent Secretary Sherri Deimeke, and Technology Director Emma Jaccarino.

The Board approved the Assurances Regarding Implementation of IDEA Compliance Requirements During Federal FY10, Assurances Regarding Federal Programs Compliance and the Local Compliance Plan. The Board approved payment of May 2009 bills.

The Board of Education recognized the following individuals for their years of service to the district: 5 years—Bart Bockenstedt, Julene Littler, Lee Ann Meador and Marci Wilburn; 10 years—Gayle Madsen, Bethany Curtis, Eric Curtis, Sonja Sommer, Kerry Dubbert; 20 years—Cheryl Snyder.  The Board also recognized the following retirees with a clock:  Teresa Finder—12 years of service; Lynn Pound—14 years of years of service; Kathy Borgmeyer —23 years of service and Jane Summers—26 years of service.

Parents As Teacher Supervisor Sandy Gastler gave a brief presentation regarding the activities of the Parents as Teachers Program for the 2008-2009 year.

Board Member Scott Sims commented he feels the Parents As Teachers Program is understaffed.

Superintendent Arlen Provancha provided current information on the ongoing construction project.  He stated in general the project is going well.  The construction crew had an unannounced OSHA visit today. 

8th Grade Recognition will be Wednesday May 20, 2009 at 7 p.m.  The last day of school for the 2008-2009 year will be Thursday May 21, 2009 with a 12:30 p.m. dismissal. Superintendent Arlen Provancha reported there is an ARRA NSLP Equipment Assistance Grant available from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.  This grant would help with the purchase and installation of an electric range, electric steam kettle, electric convection oven, walk-in freezer, and a walk-in cooler.  This is a non-matching grant. The Board approved the application for the ARRA NSLP Equipment Assistance Grant.

Elementary Principal Natalie Gibson reported on elementary enrollment and attendance.  The PTO hosted and end of year BBQ and celebration with good success.  This was a component of the Professional Learning Community.  Current summer school enrollment is 118 students; due to the high enrollment the elementary is going to add another teacher.  The elementary staff has established collective commitments for the 2009-2010 school year.   The district received a  $30,000 technology grant written by Technology Director Emma Jaccarino from the Bank of America.  The district received one of three grants awarded in the state.

Middle School/High School Principal Dr. Steve Wolf commended Sandy Gastler for her extra efforts and hard work in preparation of graduation.  End of Course testing is completed.  Prom, Senior Citizen Prom, Baccalaureate and Graduation all went very well.  Middle School/High School scheduling is ongoing.  Brent Fennewald competed in the State Golf Tournament.  Any student in middle school must attend summer school if they are failing core class. These summer school students will be using the A+ credit recovery program.  Dr. Wolf is submitting the Missouri Options Program Application.  There was a visit from FFA Area Supervisor Leon Busdieker.  After the state review of the FFA program, Community R-VI met the standard in 9 of 13 areas.

While in Executive Session the Board voted to employ Emma Jaccarino as half-time Technology Director (550 hours per year) for the 2009-2010 school year. 

Superintendent Arlen Provancha, Elementary Principal Natalie Gibson, and Middle School/High School Principal Dr. Steve Wolf reviewed evaluations for the non-certified staff. 

The Board offered an extra duty contract to Melanie Utterback for S.T.R.IV.E. & Envirothon and to Becky McCurdy for Junior Class Sponsor. 

The next Regular Board of Education Meeting will be help June 16, 2009 at 7 p.m. in the school library.
