Board of Education Meeting Update
November 17, 2009

 

The Community R-VI Board of Education met in Regular Session on Tuesday, November 17, 2009.  Tresa Hodges, Board President, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

The Board approved the meeting agenda.  The Board approved the October 20, 2009 Regular Board of Education Meeting minutes.  The Board approved the transfer from the general fund to the teacher's fund to cover monthly expenditures.  The Board approved the monthly nurse's report.  The Board approved the addition of Cheryl Becker to the District substitute teacher list. 

The Board approved dates and times that candidates can file to have their name placed on the April 2010 ballot.  Candidates should file in the Superintendent’s Office located at 35063 Highway BB, Laddonia, Missouri on::  December 15 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; December 16, 17, 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; December 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; December 22 from 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.; January 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.;
January 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; January 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; and January 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Board voted to accept the resignation of Wilma Fendrick, district cook.  The Board voted to approve payment of the November 2009 bills.

Jean Robnett, fourth grade teacher, gave a presentation on the Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) program.  Julie Hunt, fifth grade teacher, gave a presentation on the Enrichment Program.   Erika Byrd, Alissa Curtis, Kennedy Davis, Hallie Riutcel, and Charley Ann Stone gave a presentation about a class experiment and the results.

There were no Board comments.  There were no citizen comments.

Arlen Provancha, District Superintendent, gave an update on the construction project.  Mr. Provancha presented Board policy updates along with a summary of each.  The Board will vote on the policy updates at the December meeting.

Mr. Provancha gave the monthly Transportation Report.  He invited Board members to attend the Thanksgiving feast on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 11:30 a.m.  Mr. Provancha stated the District received two bids for the installation of an air-conditioner in the new gym.  The Board decided not to accept any bids at this time.

Natalie Gibson, Elementary Principal, presented the elementary attendance and enrollment.  She noted the elementary school received Third Place in the Red Ribbon Week competition for Audrain County.  Ms. Shauntá Wheeler, fifth grade teacher, received Second Place in the County for her Red Ribbon Week classroom door decorations.  Mrs. Gibson stated the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) will sponsor Santa’s Workshop for those students who wish to purchase Christmas gifts for their family.  The next PBS assembly will be November 30 at 11:45 a.m.

Steven Wolf, Secondary Principal, provided the middle/high school attendance report.  Dr. Wolf reported that he and the secondary counselor attended School Information Systems training.  He gave a report on the Future Farmers of America (FFA) meeting minutes and events.  Dr. Wolf announced the EMO Conference Choir Concert will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the new gym.

The Board voted to implement the Missouri Model Guidance Curriculum for kindergarten through 12th grade.  The Board also voted to approve the District curriculum that is entered into the Electronic Alignment Tool (EAT online).  The Board approved two Art Club fundraisers.

At 8:20 p.m., the Board voted to move into Executive Session.  While in Executive Session, the Board voted to approve the October 20, 2009 Executive Session minutes.  The Board discussed the attendance policy and personnel matters.  Mr. Provancha stated there is money missing from the elementary school safe.  In addition, the Board discussed student matters. 

At 9:09 p.m., the Board voted to return to Regular Session.  The Board voted to adjourn the meeting at 9:09 p.m.
