Community R-VI School District Board of Education Update October 2008 

The Community R-VI Board of Education met in Regular Session on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.  The Board approved the amended agenda and the following consent items: the minutes of the Regular Board of Education Meeting held on September 16, 2008, the district’s 403 B Plan, the transfer to the teacher’s fund and the Nurse's Report for October.

The Board approved the addition of Steve Cobb as a substitute bus driver and Ronald Hopkins and Stacy Steward as substitute teachers.

The Board reviewed and approved the following District Evaluations: Public Relations, Assessments, and Curriculum. 

The Board approved payment of October 2008 bills and Board President Kevin Deimeke read a thank you note from the Family of Larry Nichols

District Architect Martin Meyer provided updated plans and a revised cost and scope for district renovations.  Mr. Meyer discussed a plan/schedule of work dates that would ensure student safety and also spoke about a possible date of “substantial completion” for contractors.  The Board approved the final construction drawings for bidding. 

District Transportation Director Cheryl Snyder spoke about district bus routes.  The Board voted to approve 2008-2009 Bus Routes. 

 Superintendent Arlen Provancha provided the monthly Transportation Report.  Mr. Provancha reported the district has been working on ePeGS and MOSIS submissions for the MO Dept. of Education.

 Elementary Principal Natalie Gibson presented elementary attendance and enrollment.  Mrs. Gibson submitted and received Board approval for the new kindergarten grade cards.  Mrs. Gibson reported Westlake's donated paint and Target donated eye patches for the V.I.P. Program.

Secondary Principal Dr. Steven Wolf provided the student schedule for the National FFA Convention and middle school/high school attendance and enrollment.  The Professional Learning Community meetings are going well.  Dr. Wolf spoke about the information he has recently received regarding End of Course Exams.  Parent Teacher Conferences will be held October 22 and 23 and the Veteran’s Day Assembly will be held November 10, 2008.

 

After discussion in Executive Session, the Board voted to allow Simon "Eddy" Craft to graduate at semester and to participate in graduation ceremonies next May.

 

The next Regular Board of Education Meeting will be held on November 18, 2008 at 7 p.m. in the school library.
