Ralph Waldo Emerson
The words of Ralph Waldo Emerson describe the vision that Community R-VI has for all of our students. We want our students to be leaders, to be full of curiosity, to gain a deep knowledge and understanding of both academic information and real-life experiences. We want them to leave their unique mark on the community and the world at-large. In order for this to happen, the staff at Community R-VI, the parents, and the outside community have to continue to nurture our children by providing an accepting and warm learning environment from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Each child needs to have a sense of belonging at their school in order to succeed academically and socially.
I've heard from various individuals and groups that Community R-VI is a very nurturing and accepting learning environment and receives a lot of support from parents and the community. This is not a common situation in many school districts in Missouri. We should take pride and appreciate the strong partnerships Community R-VI has with parents and the community.
The more I learn about Community R-VI and the communities that make up the district, the more honored and humble I feel to have been chosen to be your Superintendent of Schools. I really appreciate the down-to-earth friendliness and honesty from the Board of Education members, the school staff, the parents, and the community members that I have met. I believe this is a district with strong family values and bonds to the community, which make for a great school system.
Generations of family members have graduated from Community R-VI, which has resulted in a strong school-community relationship. I have met people who have graduated from Community R-VI and now live in Monroe City, Hannibal, and Vandalia that have fond memories and stories to tell of their time at this school. Community R-VI has touched the lives of many people through the years and with your continued support we can touch the lives of young people for many more years to come.
As Superintendent of Community R-VI, I want you to know that I am a good listener and I am just a phone call away if you want to talk or you need anything. I encourage parents and community members to visit our school, volunteer at school, and be active in the P.T.O. or the various clubs for parents in the middle school and high school. Research shows us that student achievement goes up when parents are involved with activities at their child’s school. I encourage each of our parents and community members to become a partner with Community R-VI and help us continually improve our services and programs for our students.
I am excited
and looking forward to this new school year at Community R-VI. I look forward
to meeting
and
working with more parents and community members
throughout this year to positively benefit our students. Remember, we can’t
do it without you. - back to top -
New Playground
Equipment
Community R-VI will be getting new playground equipment early in the 2005-2006
school year. A huge thank you to the Ed French Foundation for the grant which
will be used to help finance the playground equipment. P.T.O. will need lots
of volunteers to assemble the equipment. As soon as the assembly date is set,
parents will be notified. Without volunteers it will be impossible to complete
this project.

FCCLA News
The R-VI Chapter Of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America had a record
membership of 49 for the 2004-05 school year. The chapter held the annual
pizza-volleyball night inviting the FFA Chapter in November. Each month members
participated in a “Lunch Bunch” with a different menu.
Members attended the Region IV meeting at Wentzville in October while four members attended the State Leadership Conference in April.
The FCCLA Chapter took two trips with the FBLA Chapter; ice skating in Jefferson City during February and in May both groups went to Kansas City for a tour of the Federal Reserve and Hallmark.
Service Projects for the year included a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and sending cards and notes to area service men and women in Iraq. Fund raisers for the 2004-05 school year were Kleinhenn Co. and Data-Match.
