Greetings from the School House,
Andrew Bertels CHS Class of 2010 broke the school record for a score at the State Golf Tournament set last year by Brent Fennewald. Results from District Baseball: The Trojans lost in the semi-final round.
The Academic Awards Assembly took place Wednesday. Congratulations to all so recognized.
We have results from our End of Course (EOC) exams. High School students are required by DESE to take an EOC exam in Algebra I, English II, Government, & Biology. We also gave optional EOC's in English I, Algebra II, Geometry, and American History. The Biology scores are incomplete as we await the results from one portion of the test. The final scores from American History are in but we await score cutoff determination and ranking from DESE due out this summer. The performance on the EOC (and MAP for Middle School) are one of the criteria DESE uses to rate our performance as a school. We also have a few students who took a make up test and we are awaiting those scores.
However, we do have GREAT NEWS to report based on the scores we do have.
In the area of the required EOC's:
70% of our students scored Advanced or Proficient in Algebra I. That is an increase of 24% from 2009; 65% scored Advanced or Proficient in English II, 50% scored Advanced or Proficient in Government, and well over 60% (pending scores from the last portion of the exam) scored Advanced or Proficient in Biology. That is an increase of at least 20% from 2009. Collectively those are Outstanding Performances from our Teachers and Students.
In addition to the required EOC's, we gave End of Course exams in the optional courses as well.
English I, 37% advanced or proficient; Algebra II, 47% advanced or proficient; Geometry, 52 % advanced or proficient, and American History, approximately 19% advanced or proficient.
A total of 104 students took an EOC exam. To date we have 54 students who have earned a ticket to the Cardinal Baseball Game based on their EOC performance. That number will increase once we have the final Biology scores and all make up test scores are in.  We have 17 students who scored Advanced or Proficient on more than one EOC exam.
That is excellent work by Students and faculty.
