Early School Start-PUBLIC HEARING

RE:  2020-2021 CALENDAR HEARING

Dear Community R-VI Families:

We are truly living in unprecedented times. These past few months have been difficult and extremely stressful for everyone.  We have missed our students and look forward to the time we can return to some type of routine.

Administrators have been meeting to consider several options for what a return to school could look like in August.  However, as we all know the COVID-19 Pandemic has been ever changing.  Therefore, we are developing several options.

Our students have missed an entire quarter of face to face instruction. While our teachers, students and parents have been working diligently on remaining connected and continuing education, remote learning is not the same as the day to day classroom instruction we are all accustomed to.

The Community R-VI School Board will be holding a virtual public hearing to discuss the 2020-2021 calendar. The meeting will take place on the Community R-VI district Facebook page at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2020.  To participate with comments and/or questions in the public hearing please email Cheryl Mack prior to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18.  Mrs. Mack’s email address is mack@cr6.net.  If you only want to watch the hearing, no action is required.

The Missouri State Board of Education approved an Emergency Rule for School Start Date on May 12, 2020.  Due to the length of our school closure this spring and the potential threat of a second wave of COVID-19 this winter, an early start could allow us much needed time to determine any concepts from this year needing review and allowing face to face instruction to help insure our students have a strong start to our next school year.  Beginning school on August 4, 2020 would give us almost an entire month to focus on re-teaching academic standards necessary to succeed at the next grade level.

We want to say thank-you for all your support during our closure.  What a wonderful community we live in.
