Parents and Guardians,
We are writing to inform you that Instructure, a provider to thousands of colleges and universities worldwide and the company that supports the Canvas learning management system, which our 6-12 students utilize, has alerted us to a recent cybersecurity incident involving Canvas. While their investigation remains ongoing, Instructure believes that student names and email addresses, student ID numbers, and direct messages sent within the Canvas platform may have been accessed.
At this time, Instructure states there is no evidence that passwords, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, or any financial information were involved. We await further information from Instructure regarding their investigation and the potential impact of their incident on information related to our District.
It is important to note that this was not a breach or cybersecurity incident on our school district’s internal network, and our local systems remain secure.
Instructure has confirmed they have implemented additional security measures to address the vulnerability. Our district is currently investigating the full impact on our specific community, reviewing all information provided by the vendor, implementing all recommended security updates, and monitoring the situation closely as it evolves. We remain committed to protecting your students’ information and will provide further updates as more details become available.
Thank you for your patience and continued partnership in keeping our students safe.
Mr. Harter
